1933 NV Model 249TV 250 cc "The Fence"

The Nyman Companies were founded in 1873 by Anders Fredrik Nyman in Uppsala, Sweden. In the early 20:th century sales of motorcycles started, Clement, Hermes, NSU, Indian and others.

Nymans Verkstäder became a master of "Badge Engineering" as they bought motorcycles from other roducers to rename them with their own tank-badges. The reverse was also common, theu sold their own produced products with a variety of brand names and also sold them to other companys. Crescent was one name used for twowheelers and outboard marine engines. Later this brands twowheelers was merged with Monark. The production of outboard engines was sold to Volvo in 1973, who continued production in the old Nyman factory in Uppsala until 1979.

NV Model 249 with Eiber engine were produced 1926 for NV by Svensk Motorindustri in Örkelljunga. 1927 it was produced by NV themself, but still with bought engines.

I the spring of 1928 produktion of their own fourstroke engine had started. It was constructed by Göran Rödén, comming from FN in Belgim. Therefore it was not surprisingly that it was a close copy of the FN top valve engine.

Model 249TV got its nickname "The Fence" as the frame was bolted together using 14 different stright steel tubes.

Capacity 249 cc
Engine type 4-stroke, OHV single

Fuel tank 7 liter
Weight 90 kg

The build year of this motorcycle is a mystery. In the original registration ducument it is dated as a 1932 year model. Tis is not possible as Model 249TV in this version only was produced 1928 to 1929 (possibly some in late 1927). The first NV engine initially only performed 2,5 hp but later gave 6,5 hp. In the registration document 7 hp i specified, so it is most possible a 1929 model. Maybe it has been waiting at a store a long time for a buyer? 1930 and 1931 a quite different version of Model 249 were built, NV Rajah with a different frame.

Engine number is 2025 and it also serves as VIN as no frame numbers were used by then. First registration number was R307, indicating that it was registered in Skaraborg, an area northeast of Gothenburg. It was in use until1940.

Todays owner, Magnus Reimhagen in Karlskrona, hs restored it completely from a number of boxes containing rusty parts up to this fine condition. After the restoration it is now again registered with the new reistration number BUC504.

There is an Owners Club, Friends of Nymans, preserving the memory of the company and their products. Read more about it at their web-page.
